'The Mandrake Root'
European Drama Network | Premiere date June 20th, 2008
Although 'The Mandrake Root' was shot hundreds of miles away beside the Mediterranean, it was The Audio Suite - which is (at present) situated far away from any sun-kissed shores - that was chosen for all the Sound Design, dialogue editing, adr and mixing work on the film, Supervised by Neil Hillman, MPSE.
Shot in Sardinia, and set in the Renaissance time of the Medicis, it tells the story of a young man's desire to sleep with the beautiful and virtuous wife of a pompous lawyer.
The project, by the European Drama Network, breaks the mould by bringing major film production to Birmingham through the accessibility of The Audio Suite's Virtual Dubbing Theatre. Extensive use was made of it throughout the post-production process, including reel-by-reel pre-mix uploads for the director and composer, working in Italy and London, respectively. The Dolby Surround soundtrack was adapted by us for theatrical release, digital cinema release, sell-through DVD and television broadcast transmission.
'The Mandrake Root' also marks an exciting rebirth in entertainment, with the simultaneous launch of a home cinema service, bringing new niche films based on the wonderful works of classic writers to viewers via internet iptv channels.
