'The Mandrake Root'
European Drama Network | Royal Television Society award nominee

Mike Rogers, Den Woods, Geoffrey BatemanAlthough 'The Mandrake Root' was shot hundreds of miles away beside the Mediterranean, it was The Audio Suite - (which is at present situated far away from any sun-kissed shores) - that was chosen for all the Sound Design, dialogue editing, adr, foley and mixing work on the film, Supervised by Neil Hillman MPSE.

Shot in Sardinia, and set in the Renaissance time of the Medicis, it tells the story of a young man's desire to sleep with the beautiful and virtuous wife of a pompous lawyer.

The Mandrake Root posterThe project, by the European Drama Network, bucked the trend by bringing major film production to Birmingham through the accessibility of The Audio Suite's Virtual Dubbing Theatre. Extensive use was made of it throughout the post-production process, including reel-by-reel pre-mix uploads for the director and composer, working in Italy and London, respectively. The Dolby Surround soundtrack was adapted by us for theatrical release, digital cinema release, sell-through DVD and television broadcast transmission.

'The Mandrake Root' also marks an exciting rebirth in entertainment, with the simultaneous launch of a home cinema service, bringing new niche films based on the wonderful works of classic writers to viewers via internet iptv channels.

'The 13th Day'
13th Day Films | New York Film Festival World Medal for Sound Design

In a world torn apart by persecution, war and oppression, 3 children were chosen to offer a message of hope to the world.

Based on the memoirs of the oldest Seer, Lucia Santos, and many thousands of independent eye-witness accounts, The 13th Day dramatizes the true story of three young shepherds who experienced six interactive apparitions with a 'Lady from Heaven' between May and October 1917, which culminated into a final prophesized Miracle.

Abducted from their homes, thrown into prison and interrogated under the threat of death in the government's attempt to silence them, the children remained true to their story.

Stylistically beautiful and technically innovative, writer-directors Ian & Dominic Higgins used state-of-the-art digital effects to create stunning images of the visions and final miracle that have never before been fully realized on screen.

With the complex Re-recording Mixing undertaken by Neil Hillman MPSE at The Audio Suite, Birmingham, the superlative soundtrack was crafted to compliment the extraordinary visuals whilst maintaining an involving and immersive listening experience for audiences at the purpose-built 2,200 seat Cinema at the 'little seer's' shrine at Fatima, Portugal; as well as home theatre and television viewers around the world.
